Concierge Tips for Copenhagen
By Uffe Sørensen
Head concierge at the Radisson SAS Royal Hotel
If you had 2 hours in Copenhagen - how would you use them?
I would buy a couple of cold beers and take a canal tour around Copenhagen. Afterwards I suggest getting a hotdog from one of the small stands you find all over the city.
Best spot for a romantic dinner?
Restaurant Kanalen is very romantic and a relaxing restaurant with good food.
Coolest 5 off the beaten track secrets?
- The Royal Library garden. The best place to philosophise.
- The New Opera House. An amazing gift to Copenhagen surrounded with interesting architecture.
- Museum of Decorative Art. Functional Danish design items.
- The Night Church. Thursday, Friday and Sunday you can visit The Night Church up until midnight.
- Bagerstræde at Vesterbro. A small street with cool designer shops and great restaurants.
What are the top 5 must see's?
- Changing of the guards, in front off the Queen's castle Amalienborg. It starts at 12:00 noon every day.
- Tivoli Gardens. A classic and unforgettable place to spend the evening.
- Copenhagen Jazz festival.
- The side streets to Strøget. Especially Kronprinsensgade and Grønnegade etc.
- The little Mermaid. A small symbol of the famous Fairytale writer H.C. Andersen.
Best place to watch a sunset?
On top of the 5 star Radisson SAS Royal Hotel is the unique restaurant Alberto K. You won't get a better view and food at same time.

Morning: I'd recommend guests fill up at the hotel's hearty Super Breakfast Buffet before hopping on one of the city's free bicycles. (Ask our concierge for the closest locations) If you're not ready to tackle the 2 wheel beast, then it's also great to walk around the many charming streets that lie in Copenhagen's city centre, shooting off from Stroget. Hit the iconic stores of Illum and Magasin and pick up excellent designer finds from Filippa K and Bruuns Bazaar to show off to your friends back home. Hay CPH lies just off Stroget and is stocked with iconic Danish designer furniture, housewares and more. Stroget is a 3 min. walk from the Radisson SAS Royal Hotel. The Radisson SAS Scandinavia and Falconer Hotels are connected via the Metro which is a 5 minute journey ride from both hotels. (Disembark at the stop: Kongens Nytorv)
Lunch: Enjoy hearty Danish open face sandwiches at these popular and historic restaurants, Ida Davidsen or Det Lille Apotek (The Little Pharmacy). I love ordering the meatball sandwiches (frikadeller) and my friends are big fans of pickled herring sandwiches, a Scandinavian specialty. For the latest craze, visit Aamanns for fusion style sandwiches. Order a couple of dishes to go and enjoy an impromptu picnic in The King's Garden with the Royal Treasury as a backdrop.
Afternoon: If the weather is good, head to Nyhavn and board one of the popular canal boat tours. Spend a few leisurely hours soaking in charming views of the Black Diamond, the historic trading houses around Christianshavn as well as the impressive new Opera House. Afterwards, disembark at Nyhavn and enjoy a cool Danish beer at one of the many cafes and restaurants that lie along the canal. The restaurant, Cap Horn is a great spot to enjoy a plate of oysters when in season.
Evening: If you are looking for a gourmet experience, look no further than the acclaimed Alberto K at the Radisson SAS Royal Hotel. Perched atop the hotel, soak in panoramic views of Copenhagen while nibbling on a unique fusion of Danish and Mediterranean flavours in this gourmet, fine-dining restaurant.
Night: I live near Tivoli, which is fantastic and really comes into its own on a summer night. Unlike the super saccharine theme parks of Disneyland, Tivoli oozes with charming flower gardens and old-fashioned buildings, strung with fairy-like lights. If it's a Friday night, I always check out their amazing concert series. This summer sees top Danish rock bands such as TV2, L.O.C., Lars H.U.G. and Alphabeat and more, each take the main stage for a high-impact, outdoor concert.
